Renault UK continued its incredible momentum by achieving over 86,300* passenger car and light commercial vehicle registrations last year, accelerating its growth to achieve a 3.7% market share.
Recording positive results across all channels, Renault UK achieved growth of over 22% compared to 2023, despite having already seen significant increases in registrations in the previous 12 months, and against a background of challenging consumer confidence and with increasing competition from a host of new entrants.
Renault passenger cars: 36% growth in a market that rose 3%
Passenger cars recorded particularly strong growth of 36%, seeing increases in retail, fleet and Motability channels in a market that rose just 3%. In retail alone, the brand ended 2024 as the second fastest growing brand overall and the fastest growing mainstream brand out of the UK’s top 20 brands.
The significant growth corresponded to the focus of the Renaulution strategy. In line with the plan’s emphasis on electrification and increased C-segment penetration, there was a 77% growth in pure-electric vehicle registrations, with the Scenic E-Tech electric registering over 4,100 units since its introduction in June. The Megane E-Tech electric also maintained its popularity, registering around 4,300 units in the UK in 2024.
Underlining the impact of the Car of the Year-winning Scenic E-Tech electric, Renault UK’s EV share of registrations from September onwards rose to 23.6% and for the final quarter, from October onwards, 26.9%.
For future EV growth, Renault UK enters the new year in a strong position, with the launch of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and the Renault 4 E-Tech electric set to further heighten the brand’s pure electric vehicle sales.
Full-hybrid vehicles proved equally popular with the UK’s car buyers. Bolstered by the availability of such models as the award-winning Clio E-Tech, Symbioz E-Tech and Rafale E-Tech full hybrids, Renault was the second fastest growing brand in the competitive sector, increasing its 2023 volumes by 39% to a total of more than 33,200 units. Renault registered the third largest number of full hybrids in the UK in 2024.
Record volume for Renault LCV registrations
Renault light commercial vehicles also made a significant contribution to the impressive results, with a record volume of nearly 28,500 registrations – up 2% on 2023. This took Renault to fourth place in the manufacturer rankings with an increased market share of 7.9%.
The Trafic proved to be the best-selling Renault van in the UK – accounting for 4.1% market share – with the multi-award-winning Kangoo being the fifth best-selling vehicle in the small van sector. The 100% electric E-Tech version of the Kangoo was also the seventh most popular electric van in the UK overall, achieving a 6.2% market share in this sector.
With orders having recently opened for the New Master – the Van of the Year – and first full year sales of the Trafic E-Tech electric in 2025, there is great opportunity for Renault to enjoy even more success in the LCV sector in the year ahead.
Adam Wood, Managing Director Renault UK said: “Renault UK has enjoyed another incredible year of growth, reflecting the class-leading quality of our award-winning cars and vans and broadened range of sectors we now offer cars in. Since the Renaulution was launched we have built momentum, and with the Renault 4 and Renault 5 arriving in 2025 we have every confidence that we will enjoy a stellar 2025 and continue our rise.”
