The phased ramp-up is proceeding according to plan, the first spare parts have already been stored – the new Daimler Truck location, the Global Parts Center (GPC) in Halberstadt, has now been officially opened:
Dr. Reiner Haseloff, Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt, Sven Schulze, Minister for Economic Affairs, Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry of Saxony-Anhalt, Thomas Balcerowski, District Administrator of the Harz district, Daniel Szarata, Senior Mayor of Halberstadt, Karin Rådström, CEO Daimler Truck, Achim Puchert, CEO Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Uwe Kazmeier, Project Manager & Head of Customer Services & Parts at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Dries Van Hoeymissen, Executive Vice President Central Europe DP World, and many other guests attended the ceremony to mark the official opening of the GPC today.
Karin Rådström, CEO Daimler Truck: “Our new Global Parts Center enables us to even better serve our customers. From Halberstadt, we can supply them with Mercedes-Benz Trucks spare parts quickly and efficiently in over 170 countries, ensuring maximum uptime for their trucks. This will further strengthen our ability to deliver on Daimler Truck’s purpose: For all who keep the world moving.”
Dr. Reiner Haseloff, Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt: “Today is a great day for Halberstadt and the entire state of Saxony-Anhalt. Investments like this are not common, especially in these difficult times. The fact that a global company like Daimler Truck has chosen Halberstadt shows that Saxony-Anhalt has lost none of its appeal as a business location. The investment will strengthen the region for the long term and send a signal to other potential investors.”
Achim Puchert, CEO Mercedes-Benz Trucks: “Our new Global Parts Center is the largest logistics project in our company’s history. The new location in Halberstadt will play a crucial role in keeping our customers’ trucks on the road and thus our economy and society running smoothly. The Global Parts Center is impressive proof that we have made customer focus a core element of our Mercedes-Benz Trucks strategy. The location will help us further increase the availability and delivery speed of our spare parts in the future.”
Sven Schulze, Minister for Economic Affairs of Saxony-Anhalt: “The implementation of Daimler Truck’s central logistics location for the global spare parts supply of Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Halberstadt proves that Saxony-Anhalt’s pace is setting standards far beyond the state’s borders. We are capitalizing on the momentum generated by the establishment of international cutting-edge technologies and want to use Saxony-Anhalt’s advantages to convince other global companies about our region’s advantages. This confirms our strategy of building new economic ecosystems and creating high-quality jobs in Saxony-Anhalt.”
Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services, Mercedes-Benz Trucks: “Halberstadt and the Global Parts Center will play a key role for us in the future: the spare parts from our new logistics hub will make a significant contribution to keep our customers and their trucks on the road, enabling us to fulfill our promise “Trucks you can trust” even better. Our new location in Halberstadt will help us to significantly expand our service business in the coming years.”
Thomas Balcerowski, District Administrator of the Harz district: “Today, the economy in the Harz district has received its first star. The arrival of Daimler Truck is an incentive for us to support the efforts of cities and municipalities to attract future-oriented industrial and technology companies with the full strength of the district administration.”
Uwe Kazmeier, Head of Customer Services & Parts Mercedes-Benz Trucks: “We are here in Halberstadt to stay and will be an integral part of the region in the future. Since the announcement of the new location around two and a half years ago, we have made rapid progress. The fact that we are still on schedule today is by no means a given. I would like to thank everyone involved in this project, especially in Saxony-Anhalt. The new logistics site has been designed for CO₂-neutral operation from the outset with an energy concept which completely avoids fossil fuels.”
Daniel Szarata, Mayor of Halberstadt: “In future, Daimler Truck and Halberstadt will be mentioned in the same breath worldwide. The settlement is the largest in the city’s 1,200-year history. Today’s opening means stability and a future for an entire region. We are proud of the realization of this project – and above all of the breathtaking speed with which we have achieved it together. Just as the company already identifies with the city, the people of Halberstadt identify with Daimler Truck. Thank you for the opportunity to be a significant part of this family.”
Thomas Zwick, Daimler Truck General Works Council: “We in the General Works Council worked together with IG Metall to secure strong collective agreements when the Global Parts Center was being planned. This creates a solid framework – both for our new colleagues from the region and for those moving from Wörth to Halberstadt. At the service provider DP World, we have achieved IG Metall standards for employees with regard to working conditions. This provides a sound basis for successful cooperation.”
Dries Van Hoeymissen, Executive Vice President Central Europe, DP World: ’With our comprehensive expertise and the strategic importance of the automotive sector for DP World, we are well equipped to handle the logistics for this remarkable project. The good cooperation with Daimler Truck has been and continues to be a decisive factor for success. What is being created here is unique and will generate around 650 jobs in the region, both in operational logistics and in administration. Our in-depth expertise from other projects in the region is now also helping us to get the Global Parts Center in Halberstadt off the ground.”
Global Parts Center in Halberstadt: The heart of global aftersales logistics
In future, up to 300,000 different items – from the smallest screw to the complete truck cab – will be delivered from the new logistics location to vehicle dealers in over 170 countries around the world. The Global Parts Center thus plays a crucial role in ensuring international supply chains. Flexible and efficient spare parts logistics is an important success factor for Mercedes-Benz Trucks and its customers worldwide: fast and comprehensive parts supply enables vehicle fleets to maximize uptime and minimize downtime..
Daimler Truck is investing a total of around 500 million euros in Halberstadt. Around 650 skilled jobs will be created at the GPC by the beginning of 2026. Currently, almost 200 employees are already working at the site.
From Halberstadt to the whole world: Aftersales parts for Mercedes-Benz Trucks
Around 2,600 Mercedes-Benz Trucks suppliers will deliver their parts to the logistics site in future. Goods acceptance at the GPC began in mid-May of this year, so that the logistics areas and shelves are gradually filling up. From the beginning of 2026, the new location will serve over 20 regional logistics centers and almost 3,000 dealers worldwide – in various European countries, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and Australia, for example. Halberstadt will thus become the heart of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ global spare parts supply.
Thanks to state-of-the-art warehousing and conveyor technology, all vehicle parts will be immediately available in an automated high-bay warehouse and an automated small parts warehouse. Goods are received and dispatched via two large, parallel halls, each around 200 meters wide and 600 meters long. Since the foundation stone was laid, a number of smaller buildings have been constructed, such as the empties and recycling halls and the office building.
The new building in the Halberstadt East Industrial Park will have a gross floor area of around 270,000 square meters with around 260,000 square meters of logistics space in the first phase of construction. That’s more than 35 soccer fields.
Daimler Truck has secured DP World, a global logistics company, to take over day-to-day operations at GPC. This includes logistics processes for incoming and outgoing goods and the parts warehouse. The company has extensive experience across the entire logistics chain and, despite its global structure, has a clear regional focus.
Sustainability at the new site: the energy concept
The new logistics site has been designed from the outset for CO₂-neutral operation, with an energy concept that completely dispenses with fossil fuels. Neither natural gas nor oil is required. The energy required at the site is generated by one of the largest rooftop photovoltaic systems in Europe, according to the company’s knowledge. More than 90 percent of all roof space at the site, around 250,000 square meters, has been equipped with photovoltaic modules.
The photovoltaic system with over 22 megawatts peak (MWp) is expected to generate more than 20 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year in the future. This is significantly more than will be consumed at the site. Surplus energy from the Global Parts Centre will be fed into the grid. Additional energy storage facilities are planned to keep the level of self-sufficiency as high as possible over the period of use. In the first stage, an energy storage facility of approximately 2,000 kWh is planned, which will be supplemented by a further storage facility at a later date.
The site will be heated by electric heat pumps, which will transfer the heat into the building via underfloor heating systems. High energy efficiency will be achieved thanks to the low heating water temperatures and the storage effect of the industrial floors.
To make it easier for employees to access electric mobility, around 30 charging points for electric vehicles will be provided. The infrastructure is already being prepared for further expansion of the charging infrastructure in the future.
Appropriate charging facilities are also available for suppliers’ trucks, whose fleets will gradually be electrified: 16 charging points with 200 kW charging capacity and four charging points with 400 kW charging capacity are available for this purpose. Daimler Truck will electrify its first route as early as August 2025 between Oschersleben, around 30 kilometers away, where a service provider pre-packs certain volumes, and GPC Halberstadt. Additional e-truck routes will follow.
