Ferrari heart, but… It’s only January, but the driver market already seems to be coming alive in view of a summer that promises to be very hot on the negotiations front. Among the most interesting names cannot be missed that of Charles Leclerc, who is preparing to start his ninth season in F1, his eighth as a Ferrari driver. The obligatory premise, whenever we talk or write about Leclerc, is his almost unconditional love for the Scuderia. The Monegasque is truly an iron Ferrari driver and would do anything to fulfill his dream of becoming world champion with the red car, thus bringing the Prancing Horse back to the absolute top of F1 after a period of starvation that – in the Drivers’ championship – has lasted since 2007. This desire, however, clashes with the many difficult and disappointing seasons experienced by Ferrari in recent years, starting from 2025. Leclerc is a driver of unquestionable talent and this year in September he will be 29 years old. The awareness that sooner or later, despite loving Ferrari, Charles must start looking around does not escape anyone in the paddock so as not to risk becoming one of the greatest talents in the history of this sport who has never won a World Championship. There are numerous teams that would be interested in Leclerc if the Monegasque really considered a possible farewell to Maranello – to which the #16 is still tied by a contract that will still be in place for several seasons. However, one more than the others seems to have what it takes to hire Leclerc: Aston Martin. Newey’s approval In Lawrence Stroll’s team, the seat currently occupied by the veteran par excellence, Fernando Alonso, could become free at the end of 2026, and Leclerc would be one of the very few drivers on the grid who could worthily replace the Asturian champion, opening a new era within the team. From this perspective, the words pronounced by the well-known German journalist Ralf Bach on the F1-Insider.com website during a live broadcast on YouTube make noise. According to Bach, Adrian Newey, legendary designer capable of winning World Championships in series with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull and currently team principal of Aston Martin, would consider Leclerc himself as an “ideal driver” to drive his single-seaters. “Newey, from what I have heard, believes that Leclerc’s driving style is the most suitable for driving his cars, which in recent years at Red Bull have always been tailor-made for Verstappen and which were the fastest when the driver managed to drive them. I therefore believe that Leclerc is highly appreciated by Aston Martin and by Newey for his driving style, which should be very similar to that of Max Verstappen. This could play a fundamental role for a designer like him,” Bach said, referring to Newey’s possible future choices. However, the German journalist also clarified that Leclerc “is still under scrutiny again [in Ferrari]. He beat Hamilton, but now he has to do it again. If Hamilton turns the situation around, he can prolong his career.”
Aston Martin-Leclerc, suggestions are growing with a view to 2027. And Newey…
