Speculation over Lewis Hamilton’s future in Formula 1 has intensified, with reports suggesting the seven-time world champion could announce his retirement at Silverstone at the end of the season.
As the most experienced drivers on the current grid, Fernando Alonso (44) and Hamilton continue to fuel discussions about the final stages of their careers. The latest wave of rumours was sparked by comments made by journalist Louis Dekker on the NOS-F1 podcast.

Lewis Hamilton

Dekker criticised Ferrari’s recent performance and suggested that Hamilton could choose Silverstone as the stage to announce his retirement. The idea was further supported by former driver Jeroen Bleekemolen, who noted that the British driver may have already made a decision about his future.
Throughout his illustrious career, Hamilton has raced for McLaren, Mercedes, and now Ferrari, winning world championships with two of those teams. However, his time at Ferrari has so far fallen short of expectations. Despite high hopes, he is yet to secure a win with the Italian team, with his last victory dating back to 28 July 2024 at the Belgian Grand Prix while still driving for Mercedes.
While Ferrari has not yet delivered the success Hamilton was aiming for, the 2026 season has still shown signs of competitiveness, with the British driver sitting fifth in the standings after the opening races.
Despite the growing speculation, an immediate retirement remains far from certain. Much will depend on Ferrari’s ability to deliver a race-winning car for next season. If Hamilton believes the team can return to title contention, he may continue his pursuit of a record-breaking eighth world championship, further cementing his place in Formula 1 history.
