Mazda Australia has confirmed the all-electric 6e will join the local model line-up in mid-2026, marking the brand’s entry into the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment with a rear-wheel drive configuration.
The 6e represents two decades of collaboration between Mazda and Chinese partner Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., combining electric drivetrain technology with Mazda’s traditional driving dynamics and design philosophy.
Mazda Australia managing director Vinesh Bhindi described the announcement as significant for the brand. “This is a watershed moment for Mazda. The 6e is a car we are extremely excited to add to our portfolio, opening up a whole new realm of opportunity for our customers who still desire our acclaimed Jinba Ittai dynamics and unmistakable design, but also want to experience the myriad benefits of its electric drive and a host of next-generation technologies, which are some of the most advanced we’ve ever launched in a production vehicle,” Bhindi said.
The 6e will feature a single rear motor producing 190kW, powered by a 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. Mazda claims the vehicle will deliver more than 500km of driving range and support fast charging from 30 to 80 per cent capacity in as little as 15 minutes.
The model introduces an evolution of Mazda’s “Kodo: Soul of Motion” design philosophy, featuring flowing lines and a low roofline with short-deck coupé silhouette while maintaining five-door hatchback functionality.
Mazda says the 6e combines smart electrification with fast charging capability and advanced cabin technology, while retaining the brand’s focus on driving performance and craftsmanship.
Pricing and full specifications for the Australian market will be announced closer to the mid-2026 launch date.
