1000 times McLaren McLaren will celebrate their 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix this weekend in Monaco (even if some counts keep them ‘still’ at 999). To celebrate this anniversary – it is only the second team in the history of F1 to reach quadruple figures, after Ferrari – the Woking team has decided to show off a special livery on the streets of the Principality. The MCL40 of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will parade through the streets of Monaco with a livery characterized by a metallic papaya color combined with anthracite. Throughout the single-seater there are references to the rich history of the Woking team, with hidden details that celebrate the fundamental stages: from the first race held, to the victories and titles won, up to the triple crown (the only team in history to have won in Monaco, the Indy 500 and the 24 hours of Le Mans) and the world speed record for a pit stop recorded in 2023 in Qatar. Both drivers will also wear special suits, echoing the design language of the car. “The livery – explained McLaren – symbolizes the message that our team never gives up and highlights the stories and work it took to get to this anniversary, celebrating the moments in which the team not only succeeded, but also the challenges they faced and how they emerged stronger. The commemorative livery will be featured on the MCL40 for the 2026 Monaco and Spanish Grands Prix.” The words of the drivers “It’s a truly special weekend for us – commented the reigning world champion Lando Norris – we are celebrating an incredible achievement. The livery is fantastic and what better occasion to celebrate than one of the most iconic races on the calendar and the place where the team contested its first Grand Prix. Having given my small contribution to the incredible history of McLaren is something I am very proud of. McLaren is a team I admired as a child and it is an honor to represent the men and women who make up this team in occasion of his 1000th GP”. “I’m thrilled to be taking to the track with this truly special livery,” echoed Oscar Piastri, “1000 Grands Prix is an amazing achievement for the team and it’s a privilege to be here representing McLaren for the occasion. The car is fantastic and it seems fitting that this celebration takes place where the team first raced in the Championship, 60 years ago. We’ll do our best to push as hard as we can with the aim of bringing home some trophies this weekend to commemorate Here’s to 1000 GPs – I can’t wait to race for McLaren for many more.”
