Not just closed wings, action will also be taken on the power units. In Monaco everything really changes with this new generation of cars which provides for a 50% division in terms of power between the electric component and the thermal component. If in the first five races of the season the problem was that the single-seaters were ‘hungry’ for power which was lacking at the end of the straights in Monaco the situation is reversed and the FIA is even forced to ‘neuter’ the electrical component of the power units for safety reasons. According to what was reported by the newspaper The-race.com, in fact, the FIA will not limit itself to not foreseeing areas of use of active aerodynamics. To further reduce the risk of accidents, the FIA has mandated the use of a different engine mode setting for Monaco which limits the maximum power output on the straights. The maximum power output of the MGU-K will begin to gradually decrease from 350 kW starting from 200 km/h. This value is much lower than the standard setting which starts to limit the maximum power output starting from 290 km/h. The reason is simple: in Monaco, with few points in which to discharge the battery, the battery will always be full and therefore there is a fear that the cars will prove to be too fast and therefore dangerous because they are always capable of delivering electric power. Pilots will certainly not have to carry out the ‘Lift and Coast’. Click here to add Formula Passion as your favorite source on Google Discover: you will find our content more easily!
