Hamilton and the simulator On the sidelines of the Miami weekend, Lewis Hamilton had expressed all his dissatisfaction with the progress of the weekend, attributing much of the blame to the deliberate set-up of the simulator, which would have put him on the wrong path.
And so the English champion in Montreal did without simulator preparation and second place under the checkered flag convinced him of the validity of his choice.
Hamilton even explained that it would be interesting to opt for the opposite process, that is, try to correct the correlation by trying to compare the sensations felt on the track with those of the simulator. Smedley investigated, but… During the podcast High Performance, Rob Smedley – engineer at Ferrari from 2004 to 2013 – said he tried to ask in the Cavallino garage what was happening with the simulator: “I spoke to a couple of people, but they shrugged their shoulders when I asked them the question.”
In short, there doesn’t seem to be much clarity. Smedley concluded: “Hamilton said he hadn’t worked on the simulator before Canada and that made him feel free, because he felt it was dragging him in a direction he didn’t like. Then obviously for him now it’s statistically true that if you don’t work on the simulator, then you go on the podium”, explained the Briton with a laugh.
