The Maranello team didn’t want to take any risks
Ferrari tried the rear wing ‘Macarena‘ in the only free practice session of the Chinese GP and then decided not to use this tool as it was not yet perfectly set up. The ‘Macarena’ wing, however, was not the only innovation tested by the Scuderia di Maranello in Shanghai.
The SF-26s, in fact, also had some fins on the central pylon of the Halo which were then removed before Saturday’s Qualifying after having been used in the Sprint race.
As reported by the newspaper The-Race.com Ferrari preferred to remove this aerodynamic innovation so as not to risk post-race problems in the event that the FIA took a contrary position or a rival team decided to present a complaint.
Talks between Ferrari and the FIA are now set to continue to obtain a definitive clarification on the legality of this solution aerodynamics that had passed the technical checks.
