Without fear
Arvid Lindblad was probably the main one positive surprise of the Australian weekend. The Englishman from VCARB, making his absolute debut in the Circus, confirmed his excellent qualifying performance in the race and crossed the finish line in eighth place, also becoming the protagonist of several spectacular battles with various pilots. One of these saw him against the four-time world champion Max Verstappenin front of which the Red Bull junior team driver didn’t lower his head at all, on the contrary.
Max furious on the radio
The two, after dueling for a few laps on the track, returned to the pits together to take advantage of the entry of the Virtual Safety Car. Here Verstappen is literally angry at the ‘newbie’ of the Faenza team, ‘baptising’ him with vitriolic words. In fact, the Dutchman perceived how Lindblad wanted him do a brake test at the entrance to the pit laneslowing down noticeably in front of him. For a moment Verstappen even thought about trying to overtake before reaching the limiter insertion zone, but Lindblad again closed the door firmly on him.
“Is that a brake test?!”Verstappen asked himself incredulously over the radio, before relaunching: “That asshole just did a brake test all over the pit lane!”. Immediately after the stop, the #3 managed to free himself from the cumbersome presence of the Racing Bulls in front of him, making a nice overtaking move in turn 9. Certainly Lindblad found a way to get noticed in his first career Grand Prix, but basically in Formula 1 to earn the respect of certain veterans you often have to be able to not appear in awe of them. #41 certainly wasn’t.
