Tragedy at the Ring It should have been a weekend of celebration for Max Verstappen and for all motorsport fans at the Nürburgring. Instead, it turned into a tragedy with the death of 66-year-old driver Juha Miettinen, who died following a terrible crash involving six other cars during the second lap of the first of the two ‘Qualifiers’ races of the NLS. The race was naturally interrupted and subsequently cancelled. Today, however, we will return to the track to compete in race 2, with the start scheduled for 1.00 pm. Verstappen and his team will be at the start as usual, but the four-time F1 champion certainly did not remain indifferent to last night’s events. Via social media the Dutchman published a message of condolences for Miettinen’s passing, expressing all his shock at what happened: “I am shocked by what happened today – Verstappen wrote on Instagram late yesterday evening – motor racing is something we all love, but in moments like this it reminds us how dangerous it can be. I offer my deepest condolences to Juha’s family and loved ones.” Today all the cars will run in mourning.
