Ford has issued two separate recalls affecting approximately 1.74 million vehicles due to defects related to the rearview camera display. The first recall concerns approximately 850,000 units of the Bronco and Edge models: according to the NHTSA, the US regulatory authority, a computer module could overheat and shut down, preventing the correct display of the camera images when the vehicle is engaged in reverse. Double maxi Ford recall This malfunction represents a safety risk as drivers may not see obstacles or people behind the vehicle when reversing. The second recall involves approximately 890,000 vehicles, including the Escape and Explorer models and the Lincoln Corsair and Aviator models. In these cases, NHTSA itself has found that the image on the center display can flip or reverse, producing an incorrect representation of the scene behind. Even in this case the problem can lead to the driver becoming confused, increasing the risk of accidents during reversing maneuvers, since the image displayed would not correspond to the real position of the obstacles. Rear camera problems The US company said it is working to find a solution to both problems, but at the moment a definitive fix is not yet available for either recall. NHTSA data points out that Ford issued 17 recalls during the year, involving more than 7.3 million vehicles. Hyundai Motor follows with five recalls for around 700,000 vehicles. In a related corporate context, Reuters cites, CEO Jim Farley told employees that improvements in vehicle quality were seen in the first few months of ownership, which contributed to higher company bonuses.
