No races in April

There war in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf is about to present its hefty bill to the Formula 1 and MotoGP World Championshipswho will not remain immune from the consequences of the conflict triggered by the attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran and by the Islamic Republic’s response against the Gulf countries. In fact, announcements are expected from both championships in recent days cancellation of the races scheduled in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia (12 and 19 April) for F1 And in Qatar (12 April) for the MotoGP.

In both paddocks this decision is now taken for granted and will produce a April unusually empty from a motoring point of viewat least as regards the two reference championships of four and two wheels: F1, losing the two eastern trips, will not have any GP in that month, moving directly from the Suzuka race (29 March) to that of Miami (3 May). The MotoGP World Championship will instead move from the United States (race in Austin on March 29th) to the first European event of the season, in Jerez, on April 26th. The Spanish one will therefore be the only match of the month between the two championships.

Recovery in extremis?

If F1 now seems convinced to move forward with a championship at 22 GPstherefore without recovering the two events that will be missed, the hypothesis of a different solution is circulating for MotoGP.

The Qatar GP could in fact be recovered at the end of the championship on the weekend of 28/29 Novemberthus ‘stealing’ the role of the final race of the season in Valencia. In this case, obviously, the decision would also have an impact on the traditional end-of-championship tests which in the MotoGP represent the de facto opening of the following season and which this year will have particular importance given the change in the technical regulations that will take place in MotoGP in 2027.
