In the first free practice session on the streets of the Principality, the SF-26 lived up to the predictions, starting with a one-two by Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. The host, fresh from renewal, is the fastest with a time of 1:13.978, while the seven-time world champion stops at 226 thousandths. The Red is competitive on both hard and medium tyres and, above all, confirms that it is at ease on the slow and driven sections: Leclerc and Hamilton immediately look for the limit and, apart from a few mistakes at Mirabeau, they find it without problems. Half a second behind all the competition, led by Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli. The Bolognese driver’s session was still positive, with a full four and a half tenths ahead of teammate George Russell, confirming his enviable state of psychophysical form. The McLarens are seriously behind, over a second behind Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Isack Hadjar’s weekend also gets off to a bad start, sending his Red Bull into the barriers at the Piscine after having always been at least six tenths behind Super Max.
