After Canada comes the FIA verdict. The Montreal weekend will be the last in which the Federation will examine the data relating to the performance of the power units and then establish through the ADUO whether and how much the various engine manufacturers will be able to intervene on the engines to try to bridge the performance difference with the reference engine which undoubtedly at the beginning of 2026 is the Mercedes power unit which has won all the GPs and Sprints, also always obtaining the pole positions. Ferrari has created an excellent car, the SF-26 has excellent mechanical and aerodynamic bases, but in this first part of the season the fact that it lacks horsepower has clearly emerged. In Maranello there is anticipation regarding what the FIA’s decision will be regarding the classification of the current power unit. The ADUO, in fact, provides two performance difference thresholds (2 and 4%) which allow 1 or 2 interventions on the power unit with an extra budget obviously directly proportional to the interventions to be made. Within 4% you can spend 3 million dollars, beyond 4% and within 6% the extra budget rises to 4.65 million dollars. Regardless of the money available to invest, it is unthinkable to fill a gap of 25-30 horsepower with just one ‘token’ available if the Ferrari power unit was judged to have no more than a 4% difference in performance compared to the Mercedes engine.
