W17 #63 shuts down. And Antonelli dreams After an epic duel between Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, which brought to the minds of many fans the 2014 challenge in Bahrain between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, the twist that could decide the Canadian GP and perhaps give the first real direction to the race for the World title arrived during the 31st lap. In fact, Russell’s W17 #63 literally shut down due to an obvious technical problem which forced the Briton first to run long on the grass, cutting the turn 8 chicane, and then to sadly park his car on the side of the track. The Englishman was furious in the cockpit, showing all his frustration over an episode which – it is clear – could have a significant impact on the race for the title, even if we are only at the fifth GP of the year. It must be said that the challenge on the track between him and Antonelli had up to that point been truly stellar, at the limit of the regulations, and that the Italian gave the sensation of being faster than his rival. However, just before halfway through the race we were deprived of the opportunity to see what the outcome of this splendid challenge would have been. On Antonelli’s side, however, if the victory were to arrive, one could certainly smile: in the event of success, in fact, the Italian would fly to +43 in the championship over Russell.
