Ferrari is the first team to run a Formula 1 on Madrid’s new semi-city circuit. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton accumulated a total of 200 kilometres, despite all the restrictions foreseen by the regulations for a Filming Day. The day was however an opportunity for the Scuderia to become familiar with the Spanish track, while the organizers were able to verify the functioning of all the systems of the facility. The day Just over two months after the first Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring, a Formula 1 raced for the first time on the new track in the Spanish capital. It was Ferrari who did it, with the SF-26 covering the 200 kilometers allowed by the regulations for a Filming Day on Thursday 9 July. Sharing the driving duties were Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, whose commitment demonstrates how lapping at Marding was a precious opportunity for the Scuderia. Although the regulation imposes various restrictions for promotional activities on the track, including the use of demonstration Pirelli tyres, different from those used in the race, taking to the track first in Madrid still allowed Ferrari to collect valuable data. However, the Filming Day was also functional for the organizers, who were able to verify the correct functioning of all systems and procedures in real conditions, as well as testing the infrastructures. The day also swept away concerns about the progress of the works on the racetrack, which will be ready in time to host the Grand Prix in September. The circuit Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were thus able to explore the only new circuit this season. The Madring measures 5.4 kilometres, connected by a total of 22 curves. La Monumental stands out above all, a long bend to the right of 550 meters to be tackled at high speed with an impressive banking rate of 24%. It is not only a spectacular section from a visual point of view, but also very demanding on a technical level, especially for the tires, which are forced to support significant loads. Also for this reason, lapping first in Madrid was an advantage for Ferrari, which will start a little ahead in its preparations compared to the competition in view of the actual Grand Prix.
