Dreaming of the Ring The spectacular weekend played by Max Verstappen at the Nurburgring, even if it did not end with a victory, nevertheless opened the discussion in the F1 paddock and not only on the possibility that other drivers of the Circus follow the Dutchman’s example and launch themselves into the fascinating undertaking of competing in other motorsport categories. Thus, during the press conference that took place in Montreal to present the Canadian GP weekend, almost all the drivers were asked what they thought of what Verstappen did. Contrary to what was said by his former teammate Lewis Hamilton, who did not appear particularly stimulated by the idea of replicating the adventure attempted by Verstappen, Russell admitted that he would also like to race at the Ring in the future: “Doing the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in the future? Definitely yes, one day I would like – said Russell – watching Max race at the weekend was really very nice to see. I followed that race in the past. These 24-hour races are always brutal races, terrible, even in other circuits.” Max Russell’s luxury, however, has also hinted, not too subtly, that Verstappen can ‘afford’ himself to make these appearances in other championships because he has been left free by Red Bull, something that many other teams do not do towards their drivers: “We are all in a different position compared to Max – stated the #63 of Mercedes – we are also fighting for the world title. Like him – he specified – but he is in a luxurious position of being able to do whatever he likes. This is great for him and he’s done a great job,” Russell said.
