Second place for the Ferrari driver
Charles Leclerc he finished the Chinese GP Sprint in second place behind George Russell. The Ferrari driver tried to attack the Mercedes driver at the end on the restart, but lost the rear at the exit of the hairpin while he was trying to stay close to the Mercedes driver.
“I thought it was my opportunity because I saw Russell struggling to open the throttle, but I also lost grip. Luckily I didn’t spin outthen I also had a problem at the last corner”, Leclerc explained at the end of the race regarding the restart.
Leclerc quickly climbed to third position at the start and then observed the long duel between Russell and Hamilton in which the Ferrari Englishman asked a lot of his tyres. Leclerc then went on the attack and didn’t expect one from Hamilton such a strong defenseto the point that Leclerc said via radio to the wall: “But does Lewis know how wide these cars are? He didn’t give me room”.
However, Sprint has certified that Ferrari is closer to Mercedes in terms of race pace than in qualifying: “Mercedes remains the favourites, but our car is strong in the race – added Leclerc – I felt very good in the car, unfortunately we lost some time fighting for second place and this allowed Russell to escape.”
