Red Bull struggles When it made the decision to produce its own engines, Red Bull knew the 2026 season wouldn’t be so simple. The winter tests had given rise to hopes for something better than what was actually glimpsed in the first three grands prix. The Anglo-Austrian team has in fact collected just 16 points and is already 119 points away from the dominant Mercedes. There is a chassis problem, but the engine works As reported in recent weeks, the attention at the Red Bull factory is focusing on the chassis, the real weak point of the single-seater. In fact, the engine seems to have given excellent responses, so much so that in recent days it has been whispered that it could be excluded from the first ADUO assignment, because it is quite competitive and close to the Mercedes one. For Miami it is reasonable to expect a chassis review of the RB22 and already the one seen at Silverstone for the test has had more than one novelty. Returning to the power unit, team principal Laurent Mekies confirmed the excellent feedback to The Guardian: “The engine has clearly exceeded expectations. The ghost of the power unit has disappeared. We have our problems and recovering a few tenths. We need to fix what needs to be fixed on the car. We know how to do it. Maybe it won’t happen in Miami already, but it will happen.”
