In the new episode of Thursday’s Engineers, Federico Albano and Carlo Platella take stock of the situation between the top teams after the Canadian Grand Prix. Mercedes is back ahead thanks also to some invisible updates, while Antonelli begins to give his inputs for development. Ferrari adopted a new set-up, which helped Hamilton to have an excellent weekend, unlike Leclerc. Lots of news also for Red Bull and McLaren, the latter expected to have a comeback in Monaco. Monte Carlo will also be a great opportunity for Ferrari, having a car and an engine that are well suited to the Principality. Antonelli and Hamilton’s jump Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton were the great protagonists of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Italian driver managed to keep up with George Russell on one of the Briton’s favorite tracks, also taking advantage of the changes to the software and clutch lever which solved the problems at the start. Mercedes has also introduced invisible developments to improve tire cooling, the beneficial effects of which will be seen especially with the arrival of the hot races. Already in Montreal, however, the Silver Arrows demonstrated that they have made a big step forward in terms of downforce, thanks to the updates to the bottom, diffuser and front wing. At Ferrari, however, Lewis Hamilton was the author of his best weekend since arriving in Maranello. The Canadian track has always been one of the favorites of the seven-time world champion, who, however, worked a lot with the engineers on the braking and corner entry phases, developing a new mechanical set-up. On the other hand, Charles Leclerc found himself in a serious crisis, with a total lack of confidence in the SF-26 which was both the cause and effect of the difficulty in getting the tires up to temperature. Towards Monaco Red Bull also got on the podium in Montreal, continuing to push on development, making further changes to the bottom and front wing, with the aim of giving Verstappen a car that is increasingly pointed forward. The Milton Keynes team took advantage of McLaren’s misstep, both in strategic and technical terms, as the papaya team had to temporarily set aside the new front wing. The world champions are aiming for a comeback in Monte Carlo, where Ferrari will also be in the game. The SF-26 has a chassis and engine that are well suited to the twisty streets of Munich, where the power lag from Mercedes will be less important. In the Principality, however, the Formula 1 cars work in a completely different window than usual, more similar to that of road cars, which is why the Monegasque race requires very particular preparation. In 2025 Ferrari was able to fight for victory despite a car lacking in slow corners, an episode that reminds us how difficult it is always to make predictions in Monte Carlo.
