Jaecoo Australia has confirmed its first electric SUV, the J5 EV, will reach local showrooms in January 2026, launching as a single, highly equipped variant called the Track.
The company says the newcomer is aimed at Australian families and pet owners, with a standout feature being its pet-friendly synthetic leather interior. The silicone-based material is antibacterial, wear-resistant and easy to clean.
“We are beyond excited with the arrival of the J5 range in Australia,” Omoda Jaecoo Australia and New Zealand chief commercial officer Roy Munoz says.
“Kicking off with the BEV variant, it will be a compelling choice in an increasingly competitive EV market. No other vehicle currently offers a pet-friendly interior and a large selection of accessories, which range from a dog carrier to a waterproof cargo mat, and even a karaoke machine.”

Performance and range
The J5 EV uses a single front-mounted electric motor producing 155kW and 288Nm. Jaecoo lists a 0–100km/h time of 7.7 seconds and energy consumption of 143Wh/km.
Range is up to 402km on the WLTP cycle, and the battery can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in 28 minutes via DC fast charging. Towing capacity for an unbraked trailer is 750kg.

Design and safety
The J5 adopts rugged exterior cues with slim headlights, an EV-specific active-aero grille, a sloping roofline and a full-width rear light bar with Jaecoo lettering. The cabin follows a minimalist theme centred around the 13.2-inch touchscreen.
Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane keeping, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning.
Eight-year warranty package
The J5 EV is covered by an eight-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, eight years of capped-price servicing and an eight-year unlimited-kilometre battery warranty.
Growing global momentum
Jaecoo and Omoda continue to expand internationally, recording 43,481 global sales in November and surpassing 330,000 sales so far in 2025 — a 47 per cent increase year-on-year. The J5 EV has also seen strong demand overseas, selling out in Thailand and receiving 6,000 pre-orders in Indonesia within two weeks.
