GWM has confirmed its all-new Tank 300 Hi4-T plug-in hybrid will arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2026, expanding the brand’s rapidly growing electrified off-road line-up.
Previewed at GWM Tech Day in September, the Tank 300 Hi4-T builds on the Hi4-T hybrid architecture already used in the Tank 500 and Cannon Alpha. GWM says the new variant combines electrified performance with “class-leading 4×4 capability” to give Australian buyers a fresh option for both adventure and daily use.
At its core is a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine paired with a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission. The system delivers strong low-end torque and improved efficiency, while retaining a full mechanical four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case and locking differentials.
GWM says the Tank 300 Hi4-T remains a genuine off-road SUV rather than a soft-roader with electrification.
Engineered for towing and touring, it offers a braked towing capacity of up to 3,000kg and includes Vehicle-to-Load capability to power equipment, tools and outdoor accessories directly from the vehicle.
As seen in the Tank 500 and Cannon Alpha, the intelligent hybrid system allows the Tank 300 to operate in electric, hybrid or petrol modes depending on driving conditions. The company says this improves fuel efficiency for commuting while providing precise torque control for off-road situations including sand, mud, climbs and rocky trails.
The Cannon Alpha Hi4-T remains the only PHEV to reach the top of Beer O’Clock Hill, a point GWM highlights as evidence of the platform’s off-road credentials.
Expanding Hi4-T to the Tank 300 is part of GWM’s broader strategy to offer petrol, diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid options across its range. The company says the Tank 300 Hi4-T delivers “an all-new proposition” for buyers who want cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology without compromising capability.
Full Australian specifications, grades and pricing will be released in early 2026. Expressions of interest are now open at gwmanz.com.
