F1 changes With the first three weekends of the season, Formula 1 has not given a great image of itself. The regulations were not convincing, and Circus itself decided to intervene immediately, making changes right from Miami to meet the needs of all parties involved. The improvements, the result of a long discussion between the FIA, the FOM, the teams, the drivers and the engine engineers, aim to resolve the problems that emerged during the first races, in particular regarding qualifying and the safety of the new cars. F1 president Stefano Domenicali has no doubts: not only will they work, but they will simply improve a product that already worked. Domenicali’s words “I think it’s not about solving the problem of Formula 1. Formula 1 has no problems, it’s in excellent shape, just to be clear. The vast majority of fans have been, from the beginning, very positive about what they’ve seen in terms of action”, this is his comment to The-Race. “Sometimes we get too deep into philosophical or technical discussions on topics that the majority of people don’t understand. This change was necessary to keep Formula 1 relevant in the motorsport ecosystem. It is in our nature to try to improve, but these discussions will remain within the appropriate context, because they are not of interest to the majority of fans.” “Just look at the data, we have full houses in every race. It’s the first thing anyone can see with their own eyes. So I don’t see this negativity. We have data that our collaborators can give you in terms of real numbers, it’s all good. Critics get too much into the engineering mindset, and that’s why sometimes we lose sight of the point: people want to take action, they want to see things that create the right context to fight for something,” he added. “There has been too much focus on the comments of certain drivers, which has led to a lot of discussion among hardcore fans in that direction. And it’s a lesson we’ve learned: these things should have been handled differently. Not because nothing should be talked about, but because there are so many positive elements.”
