Leclerc outclassed by Hamilton A weekend to forget for Charles Leclerc completed today in Montreal. The Monegasque was clearly beaten by his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, throughout the weekend and despite today’s fourth place finish – favored by the retirements of Russell and the two McLarens – what makes an impression is the gap that the Monegasque has gained from the seven-time world champion: 34 seconds. On a couple of occasions Leclerc even risked ending his GP against the walls of the Canadian circuit, demonstrating how he really wasn’t at all comfortable with the setup of the SF-26. After the race Leclerc expressed all his frustration for the outcome of the weekend on his pit wall, without anger but with the attitude of someone who struggles to understand what happened. The radio team at the end of the race “I think we will have to do an analysis – the Monegasque said to his track engineer Bryan Bozzi after the checkered flag – I have to understand what is happening on this track. In short, I haven’t had any sensations since the beginning of the weekend and the situation has never improved. I really can’t feel the car. Let’s examine everything and start from scratch for Monaco, but what a disappointing weekend.” Then came the compliments for Hamilton, but it is clear that in view of the home GP the need for Leclerc will be to regain confidence in the car which here in Canada has never been there for the red #16.
