This and more has been read on social networks and in some comments on specialized sites in recent days after the first victory in Formula 1 by Andrea Kimi Antonelliwhich brought Italy back to the top step of the podium after two decades. There is a part – a minority it must be said – of Ferrari fans who did not welcome the victory of the 19-year-old driver from Bologna, guilty of wearing the colors of the “enemy” Mercedes.
These hard and pure Ferrari fans remained impassive in front of a young Italian talent capable of establishing himself in F1 after just 26 races, becoming among other things the youngest poleman in history.
The love for the Red is stronger, it is a faith that looks at the Cavallino more than the nationality on the passport. And there it is, but it must be said that Andrea Kimi Antonelli did nothing to go against the Ferrari drivers. As an intelligent and polite boy, he knows well that respect for his opponents is fundamental: “I don’t want to overshadow any myth, Ferrari remains Ferrari, immense. I understand all the love for the Red, but it’s nice that the fans know that I have found a family in Mercedes”he explained to the Corriere dello Sport, elegantly avoiding any controversy.
Stefano Domenicali, president of F1, gave his version on the topic to Sport Mediaset: “For Italians, Ferrari is still something very important. It will be up to Kimi to transform this energy, which is focused on a team that has not only made the history of the automobile but also of our country, in a different way. It’s clear that the dream of many Italians would be to see Kimi world champion on Ferrari, so everyone would agree.”
But it must be admitted that the path created for Antonelli by Mercedes and Toto Wolff has been perfect since 2017 and today has led him to be behind the wheel of the best car in his second year in F1.
