The most successful strategies from the teams, combined with the seven total retirements recorded during the Chinese Grand Prix (with both McLarens not even lining up on the starting grid due to technical problems) they offered a good opportunity to the teams most in difficulty to complete the race in the top ten in the standings, thus obtaining precious points. A goal that he managed to partially achieve Williamsout of the points in Australia but back in the top-10 in Shanghai thanks to 9th place for Carlos Sainz.
The former Ferrari driver, in addition to having managed the tires in the best possible way, also resisted the final attacks of Franco Colapinto, coming back after the contact with Esteban Ocon: “It’s a great feeling to have scored some points here in China thanks to an excellent start, effective tire management and good defense in the final part of the race against Colapinto – commented #55 – we know we are not capable of scoring points on pace alone at this stage of the season, but today we did everything right and that made the difference. We must be proud of having made the most of every aspect and I hope that these points will motivate the whole team, here on the track and in Grove. Everyone is giving their all and we must continue to work hard in the coming weeks to further improve the car’s performance. Let’s go!”
A Sunday that was anything but satisfactory for Alex Albonamong the four pilots who they did not take part in the race for a technical problem with your cars: “There’s not much to learn from today, given that on the approach laps to the grid we spotted a plumbing problem which prevented me from leaving. We were hoping to be able to get back on track to do some laps and break in the car again before Japan, but unfortunately we weren’t able to resolve the problem in time. We need to thoroughly analyze the issues and feedback we receive and understand our reliability issues in order to improve performance. As a team it is important to distinguish what is in our control from what is not and we need to team up for Japan in just two weeks. On the bright side, Carlos managed to score some points for the team today, and congratulations to Kimi on his first win.”
