What a Ferrari at Silverstone “Even if we were to overtake them at the start the Mercedes will disappear over the race distance”, said Lewis Hamilton at the end of Saturday at Silverstone. In the GP the Ferraris actually took command of operations when the traffic lights went out, but Hamilton’s prediction did not come true. Only Andrea Kimi Antonelli seemed headed towards victory which would have only arrived at the end of the race because Charles Leclerc was very fast for the entire first stint. Furthermore, without the penalty for jumping the start and the conservative decision of the Ferrari pit wall to call Lewis Hamilton back to the pits to change the tires a one-two would have even been achieved because George Russell experienced an anonymous Sunday which ended in second place with more than a pinch of luck. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur, however, doesn’t want to be carried away by the enthusiasm and keeps his feet on the ground: “Ferrari for the World Championship? Let’s not start like this, let’s enjoy tonight, then we have to work for Spa, we’ll take one race at a time”, Vasseur said to Sky when interviewed by Davide Camicioli. “We were faster than Russell, but Antonelli was faster than us – added Vasseur – I think it would have been a good battle with Leclerc, but Kimi was faster”.
