A frantic chase When George Russell crossed the finish line of the Australian Grand Prix as the winner, his words and his body language seemed that of someone who was fully aware that he had a car in his hands capable of giving him the world title. And the Englishman certainly wasn’t wrong, given that Mercedes has achieved all 5 poles and victories in the races held so far to date.
What Russell probably hadn’t taken into account was the explosion of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, his 19-year-old teammate, capable of achieving 4 consecutive victories. And Russell’s dream is risking turning into a sort of nightmare, given that the Englishman has started to collect several problems, the latest of which forced him to retire in Canada – probably due to a battery problem. Thus Antonelli took off in the standings, taking a 43 point lead over his teammate. Russell’s frustration emerged clearly both in the gestures immediately following his retirement and in the interviews: it will be up to Toto Wolff to keep his driver calm and focused from the next world round in Monte Carlo. Russell puts pressure on Antonelli In interviews with television and the media, George Russell explained: “It seems that now Antonelli can lose this world championship. He has a huge points advantage, it seems that the gods do not want me in this fight, if I think back to the timing of the Safety Car in Japan, the breakdown in Q3 in China, the fight for pole and the problem while I was leading here in Canada. But now the pressure is gone: I will get on the track and enjoy every single race. I have nothing left to lose. I wouldn’t want to talk like that, but it’s obviously frustrating because I would like to be in that fight. Hopefully my luck will turn.” Click here to add Formula Passion as your favorite source on Google Discover: you will find our content more easily!
