Max is unhappy. In recent days, Formula 1 is thoroughly analyzing what can be improved with the new regulations and the drivers are also taking part in the discussions. Among the most active – both in front of the cameras and behind the scenes – is Max Verstappen, who would like to return to a Formula 1 that can allow drivers to go to their maximum, without depending too much on energy management.
Verstappen had threatened to retire, but making him one of the main interlocutors for the drivers in discussions with Formula 1 and the FIA is a sign that it is in everyone’s interests to keep him on the starting grid. Nelsinho Piquet: “Verstappen is not in F1 for the money” During an interview with his Spanish colleagues at SoyMotor, Nelson Piquet Jr. was asked what Verstappen can do. And the Brazilian is not just anyone, given that he is one of the ‘family’ being the brother of Kelly – partner of the Dutch champion: “Max is a very genuine person and says what he thinks. He is not there for the money, but for the sport and for the challenge and because he likes it. If he no longer felt at ease, he would probably do something else”. Nelsinho Piquet continued: “He knows what he wants and does what he feels. If F1 doesn’t make him happy, he will say: ‘Ok, I’ll do something that will make me happy’. Whether it’s racing in GT, in karting rallies or whatever. I know a lot of drivers who are in Formula 1 for the money, because they have to pay the bills. But that’s not his case. He doesn’t chase the money. If things don’t change, there’s a possibility that he’ll say he wants to do something else and when things they will like him again, let him come back. Knowing him I can say that if he doesn’t feel the passion for sport, there is a good possibility that he will do something else.”
