nissan has signed definitive agreements with Uk autonomous-driving company Wayve to integrate advanced AI-powered driver-assistance technology into a wide range of future nissan models.

The partnership will see Wayve’s embodied-AI software incorporated into the next generation of nissan’s ProPILOT system, supporting both driver-assistance features and point-to-point advanced driving across global markets.

nissan introduced ProPILOT in 2016 for single-lane highway assistance and expanded the system with ProPILOT 2.0 in 2019, adding multi-lane capability and hands-off functions. These features are now available across several models.

In September, nissan revealed a prototype featuring Wayve’s ‘Wayve AI Driver’ integrated with the company’s “Ground Truth Perception” technology using next-generation LiDAR. The prototype demonstrated smooth and safe assisted driving on highways and in complex urban environments.

Under the agreement, nissan and Wayve will embed Wayve AI Driver into the next-generation ProPILOT platform for deployment in mass-produced vehicles. nissan plans to launch the first model equipped with the new system in Japan in the 2027 financial year, with rollout to other markets — including North America — to follow.

nissan says it is the first automaker to commit to deploying Wayve’s AI technology at scale. The system is designed to adapt efficiently across different cities and vehicle platforms with minimal additional development, and will use camera, radar and LiDAR inputs depending on model and segment.

The companies say large-scale deployment will accelerate real-world learning and improve long-term competitiveness in intelligent-driving technology.

“By combining nissan’s advanced autonomous driving expertise with Wayve’s state-of-the-art AI technology, we are setting a new benchmark for driver assistance,” nissan president and chief executive Ivan Espinosa says.

“The widespread adoption of our next-generation ProPILOT integrated with Wayve AI will deliver safer, more intuitive and more comfortable driving experiences to customers worldwide, while accelerating the transition toward an intelligent Mobility future. This agreement is an important step in nissan’s mission to revolutionize Mobility making it cleaner, safer, and more inclusive.”

Wayve co-founder and chief executive Alex Kendall says nissan is leading global adoption of embodied-AI systems in mainstream vehicles.

nissan is leading the way among global automakers by bringing embodied AI toward mass production,” Kendall says.

“We are proud to partner with nissan to make next-generation intelligent driving technology accessible to customers worldwide. By combining Wayve’s rapidly advancing AI with nissan’s engineering and global reach, we can accelerate the pace of innovation toward safe and delightful autonomous Mobility.”
