Lewis flies without simulator At the weekend in Miami, Lewis Hamilton explained his decidedly negative performance with the deliberate set-up on the simulator that had put him off the road, in a weekend characterized by the Sprint format and therefore with less time on the track available to fix the set-up.
So Hamilton showed up in Canada doing his own thing and leaving aside this type of work on the simulator and the results proved him right, as he finished second under the checkered flag, his best placing since racing for Ferrari. Hamilton will try to correct the simulator. In the press conference, Lewis Hamilton explained that he will try to do the reverse work, i.e. a retrospective comparison of the good set-up used in Montreal on the track and the sensations that this gives back to the simulator, to try to understand the problems of the machinery or software. “The simulator? I’ll get back to driving it at some point… It might be useful for example to go back and compare with this weekend, to understand where the gaps are. The test driver will say everything is fine, but they only know what they know, since they don’t drive. It’s just Charles and I driving the car. The good thing about driving the real car is being able to go back and say, ‘This is what it really feels like, these are the things we’re missing,’ so we can improve it,” Hamilton said. The Ferrari driver, however, made it clear that he will continue on his own path: “What if I use it to prepare for another race? Probably not, it’s too risky. For my two best races that I’ve done, I haven’t used a simulator. In all the previous championships – excluding 2008 – I haven’t used the simulator. For me it’s not a necessity, it’s a tool that can be powerful but, as far as I’m concerned, I’m old school. I get along better without it”, concluded Hamilton.
