A key day for F1 As reported in recent weeks, Monday 20 April will be fundamental for intervening on the 2026 regulations and fixing the problems that emerged in Formula 1 in the first three races of the season. After two meetings between the federal and team technicians, and after consulting the drivers, the ball now passes to the decisive meeting in which the team principals will also participate. Subsequently there will be an online vote to ratify the changes and make them valid starting from Miami. Ben Sulayem: “We will move for the safety and interest of the sport” On Sunday evening, Federation President Mohammed Ben Sulayem made a statement on the ongoing decision-making process: “I am pleased to report that a constructive and collaborative debate has taken place between the FIA and Formula 1 drivers ahead of tomorrow’s meeting between CEOs and team principals to discuss potential changes to the 2026 regulations. The drivers have provided invaluable input on the adjustments they believe are necessary, particularly in the area of energy management, in order to ensure safe, fair and competitive racing. The FIA has also held a series of meetings in recent weeks with the technical representatives of the teams, the engineers and the FOM to discuss the proposed changes. Safety and the interests of the sport are the focus of these discussions. Following tomorrow’s meeting, the final proposals will be submitted to the electronic vote of the FIA WMSC.” And again: “Constructive and collaborative discussions are underway between the FIA, Formula 1 drivers and all our partners, to ensure that the 2026 regulations make our sport the best it can be. We are committed to ensuring safe, fair and competitive racing and I look forward to tomorrow’s talks”, concluded Ben Sulayem. As is known, the two areas on which the discussions are focusing are energy management during qualifying and the difference in speed between the charging cars and those arriving.
