Audi surprised everyone in Barcelona Audi has already used the first of two ADUO tokens planned for this season after the FIA informally notified the teams of engine power assessments at the Monaco GP weekend. The background is revealed by Motorsport.com which, in an article written by Roberto Chinchero, tells how the team led by Mattia Binotto already had the first development of the power unit ready and how the debut took place in Barcelona without (almost) anyone realizing it. Few, however, imagined that the house of the Rings already had the first ADUO development in the pipeline and was therefore already able to debut the engine update at the first available race. An update, according to Chinchero, aimed more at improving handling rather than increasing performance who knows how much, but which certainly immediately paid off: in Catalonia, Hulkenberg entered Q3 for the first time in the season and was in the points before his unfortunate retirement. ADUO, a good sign for Ferrari In addition to underlining the readiness of the Audi F1 engine department, the news is certainly also important for Ferrari: in fact, it has already been said several times how the Cavallino would aim to debut the first updated engine thanks to one of the two ADUO tokens available – the Rossa is at a 4% deficit from the reference power unit and can therefore develop twice this season with two more tokens in view of 2027 – on the GP weekend of Austria and how it was necessary to wait for the OK from the FIA, which has not yet completed the “recalculation” formally requested by Red Bull. It is clear at this point that, if it is true that Audi has already debuted the “new” power unit, there are no reasons why Ferrari should not get the green light from the Federation. The ADUO-updated engine should deliver around 5 more horsepower, with another 2-3 horsepower produced by the new Shell-approved gasoline.
