BMW Group Australia has recorded a total of 24,585 BMW and MINI vehicles sold from January to September 2025, marking a 10.2 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2024, outperforming the overall auto industry’s 0.8 per cent growth.
BMW: Leading the Premium Segment
BMW reinforced its position as Australia’s leading premium automotive brand, achieving year-to-date growth of 3.3 per cent with 20,301 vehicles sold.  The strong performance reflects the popularity of BMW’s diverse model range and its “technology openness” strategy, which allows customers to choose a particular model with different drivetrain options – battery electric, plug-in hybrid, or combustion engine.
Outperforming its closest premium competitor by more than 3,000 vehicles, BMW’s results not only secure its leadership position in the premium segment but also highlights the brand’s strong appeal in the Australian market.
BMW X Range Drives Success

The BMW X Sports Activity Vehicle range remains the cornerstone of the brand’s success, representing 70 per cent of BMW sales year-to-date (Jan–Sept) with 9,996 registrations. The top-selling BMW models for the period were led by the BMW X1 with 3,948 units, followed by the BMW X3 (3,629), X5 (2,764), BMW X2 (1,679), and the 3 Series (1,385).
Electrification Momentum

BMW’s 16 fully electric variants across seven models – the largest range of any manufacturer in the country, with six variants priced below the luxury car tax – continued to gain traction, accounting for 20.4 per cent of BMW’s total sales year-to-date. The BMW iX1 led the way with 1,498 units sold, closely followed by the BMW iX2 with 980 units. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) have also seen significant growth, with 1,219 sales representing an increase of 272 per cent compared with January–September 2024. This momentum is largely driven by the new BMW X3 xDrive30e, which has quickly become BMW’s best-selling PHEV with 811 units sold year-to-date.
BMW M: A Performance Powerhouse

Australia continues to be one of the top global markets for BMW M, the brand’s high-performance division. M models accounted for 21.4 per cent of all BMW sales year-to-date, achieving growth of 6.2 per cent compared with 2024. This underscores the enduring passion among Australian drivers for BMW’s performance portfolio.
Next-Generation MINI Line-Up Drives Record Growth

MINI’s popularity reached new heights in Australia, achieving a record September and Q3 result in 2025. The brand’s success is underpinned by a strong community and next-generation model portfolio, including the MINI Cooper, MINI Aceman, and MINI Countryman, which collectively boosted sales by 61 per cent compared with January–September 2024. September alone saw 525 units sold, contributing to a year-to-date total of 4,284 units.
The MINI Countryman, the largest MINI model and winner of the 2025 Drive Car of the Year award for Best Small SUV Under $80,000, led the way with 1,746 units sold, closely followed by the MINI Cooper (1,726), MINI Aceman (537), and MINI Cabrio (275).
Electric vehicle sales continue to accelerate, with registrations surging 149 per cent year-to-date and, now representing 38 per cent of total MINI sales. The fully electric MINI Aceman leads the charge with 537 units sold. At the same time, high-performance MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) variants, introduced across the portfolio in April, contributed more than 20 per cent of total sales.
The brand is on track to achieve a new full-year record, needing only five additional units to surpass its previous best in 2023.
CEO’s Perspective
“The achievements across both our BMW and MINI brands would not be possible without the trust of our customers and the dedication of our dealer network across the country, said Vikram Pawah, CEO, BMW Group Australia.  Their commitment and professionalism ensure our brands are represented to the highest standard.  Together, they drive the success of our bands and reinforce why both new and loyal customers continue to choose BMW and MINI.”
