Still no points Oliver Bearman’s objectives for the British Grand Prix were essentially two for the Haas driver: to return to the points after a long absence from the Canadian GP and to do so at his home race. However, for both him and the US team, this did not happen. Disaster at the start, and not only Starting from 13th position on the grid, the mission immediately became complex due to an off-track exit at Brookslands, where there was contact with the Williams of Alex Albon (later penalised). Returning to the pits and starting from last position, Bearman managed to climb up to 14th place, which later became 12th due to a penalty inflicted on Antonelli and Sainz’s other Williams: “We had another bad start, as has already happened in the last two races, despite a good procedure on my part, but we have to work because we have constant problems in the starts – commented the Englishman after the race – yesterday the start was good (in the Sprint, ed), today was terrible. I lost positions and this put us in a situation that caused us to spin at Brooklands. After that, I found myself at the back and we were going slowly, not fast enough to overtake. We struggled in the dirty air, then we managed to find clear air and showed good pace, but still we weren’t fast enough.” Cursed umbrella Esteban Ocon was also betrayed by bad luck, but not due to contact. The Frenchman, on the contrary, after an excellent start, returned to the pits in a very brief moment of Virtual Safety Car caused by an umbrella present on the escape route, during which #31 lost several positions also due to a problem during the tire change, climbing up to 14th final place: “Going from 17th to 11th position on the first lap was fantastic: I gained many positions on the outside of several cars and it was excellent. We worked hard on the starts and lately this has paid off fruits, as we were close to the points. Obviously we were losing ground little by little, still fighting with the Williams and some other cars. I saw that there could be a possibility with the Virtual Safety Car, but it only lasted five seconds and when I entered the pits the green flag had already come out, so it wasn’t on my side. We had a problem with the right rear wheel during the pit stop, which made the stop a lot longer. It wasn’t a perfect race, but we had a car that was behaving normally without any major problems degradation that I had in the last races. The mechanics and engineers did a great job on the car, they really improved it compared to the last races. I liked driving in that race, being there and being able to fight without problems, but we need a little bit more pace to get closer to the points.”
