Between past and present Vitantonio Liuzzi is not only a former Formula 1 driver, but is also an FIA steward who often in recent years has found himself ‘refereeing’ Grands Prix as part of the college of race commissioners. For this reason his opinion when he talks about this contemporary era of F1 has a different weight than that of many of his former colleagues: Liuzzi in fact, thanks to his role in the federation, is still involved in the present of the Circus. He conducted an exclusive interview with the former Toro Rosso, Force India and HRT representative, asking him what he thought of this new generation of single-seaters, born from the power unit revolution that sparked divisions, criticism and controversy among enthusiasts all over the world. Less ‘wild’ spectacle “This is an F1 that is certainly different from the past – Liuzzi told our microphones, contesting not so much the lack of spectacularity of today’s Grands Prix, but rather a certain lack of authenticity – there are always exciting races, even if a little more artificial than those of the past thanks to all these technological ‘tricks’ of the power unit which make everything a little more artificial and less ‘racing'”. “Personally, I like this F1 less than that of my time, which was a little more ‘wild’ – added the former driver from Locorotondo – there you basically always had to stay at 110% when braking, when cruising, on the gas, with more extreme overtaking. Now it’s all very different, but it’s still an exciting F1. I don’t know how much fun it is for the drivers compared to the one I drove, but it still remains the pinnacle of motorsport,” he commented.
