Antonelli challenges Russell at home Mercedes returned to winning ways in Austria with George Russell, but the double at the Red Bull Ring was not achieved because Max Verstappen preceded Andrea Kimi Antonelli who made too many mistakes at the start of the race. At the weekend we will immediately take to the track at Silverstone, even with a Sprint format, so potentially there will be two races of potential duels between Russell and Antonelli as already happened in Canada. Toto Wolff, however, prefers to keep his feet on the ground and not take it for granted that Mercedes will be the car to beat a few kilometers from the Brackley headquarters: “In Austria we achieved excellent results with a double podium, but we cannot take it for granted that this trend will continue. The values on the field are very close, the hierarchies change rapidly and what appears competitive one week can turn out to be very different the next: this is the current reality of Formula 1”. “We are involved in a heated challenge on the development front – added Wolff – when one team takes a step forward, the others react, compressing or modifying the balance. So far, consistency has been our strong point, the result of discipline and the ability to execute the fundamentals as best as possible. Our goal is to continue to work well, improve the car’s performance where possible and leave nothing to chance on the track”.
