Ferrari’s homework Ferrari showed up in Miami with the decidedly renewed SF-26, but so did McLaren and Red Bull. Only Mercedes will play the first update package in Canada in two weeks and not in Miami like their rivals. The leap forward by McLaren and Red Bull was evident, even Ferrari did not disfigure at all, but at the moment the gap in terms of the internal combustion engine is emerging more and more clearly as Lewis Hamilton underlined. The smaller turbo at the start and with the car full of fuel is a weapon, but it is a double-edged weapon at the end of the race when the opponents fly with an empty tank. At Ferrari, the two-week stoppage will serve to analyze what didn’t work in Miami, forcing Leclerc to exaggerate at the end in an attempt to defend the podium. “We saw a significant performance gap between the phase in which Charles was leading and the final part of the race: it is an aspect that we need to analyze – acknowledged Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur – there are however some positive aspects to take home: the starts were good, the updates worked as expected and we know what we need to improve on”.
