Pirelli test at Silverstone: technical problems for Sainz’s Williams

The report of the day The first day of the development tests organized by Pirelli at Silverstone took place yesterday, Tuesday 7 July. The Italian company is engaged in the final definition of the structure of dry tires for next season, in view of the freezing of specifications set by the regulation on 1 September. The drivers taking to the track were George Russell for Mercedes and Carlos Sainz for Williams. The program included screening runs during the morning, to then focus on the most promising solutions through long runs in the afternoon. The asphalt temperature reached 46 °C, while the air temperature reached a maximum of 31 °C. Russell completed 113 laps for a total of 665 kilometres, recording a best time of 1.30.695. Sainz instead covered 61 laps for 359 kilometres, stopping the clock at a time of 1.33.576. Due to a technical problem the Williams car was unable to complete the day’s programme. The test will continue today with their respective teammates. At the wheel of Mercedes will be championship leader Kimi Antonelli, while Alex Albon will take to the track for Williams.
