Somerville in Alpine, here is the official announcement Alpine is strengthened with the arrival of Jason Somerville as new deputy technical director, a position he will hold immediately. He will report directly to director David Sanchez. As we reported yesterday, the British engineer left his role as head of aerodynamics at the FIA to accept the offer from Flavio Briatore’s team. For Somerville this is a return to Enstone after his previous experience in the aerodynamic department of Lotus between 2010 and 2011. During his career he has also worked with Williams, Toyota and Formula 1, always as head of aerodynamic development. Somerville’s words “I’m really excited to return to Enstone and work with Flavio and David in this new role”, this is Somerville’s comment. “I haven’t been involved with the racing side of an F1 team for a few years now and I can’t wait to get back into the thick of the action, battling with our rivals for points and hopefully trophies. I can’t wait to get to work and join the fantastic team of engineers, designers and aerodynamicists at the factory, hoping to contribute to the success of the team in the not too distant future.” Sanchez’s words “We are thrilled to have someone of Jason’s caliber and experience join the team and allow us to continue to progress at a rapid pace,” added Sanchez. “The work the team has already done this season has been extraordinary, but we all know this is just the beginning and no member of the team is resting on their laurels. The addition of Jason to our technical team will allow us to take further steps to improve our performance in the current Formula 1 development race.”
