Jack Doohan’s troubled 2025 Only seven GPs in Formula 1 and a career that came to an abrupt end, surprisingly, to make room for a not so much more renowned driver. The dream of Jack Doohan and his motorcycling legend father Mick was put on hold after the 2025 Miami GP, his last appearance in the grand prix paddock as a starting rider. Since then only a lot of bench, first as a separate player at home in Alpine and today in Haas with the role of reserve behind Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman. But also the choice to try again elsewhere, between Super Formula in Japan (and it didn’t go very well) and the European Le Mans Series. A decidedly troubled year for the young Australian driver, which Mick Doohan himself spoke about during an interview with the Spanish sports newspaper Marca. Mick Doohan’s accusations “Alpine? It’s not like I can comment on what happened – explains the five-time champion of the 500 class of the MotoGP – but I believe that the treatment given to Jack was unfair. It was like this from the beginning, because they had decided to replace the rider in progress even before the start of the season. And basically, that’s what they actually did. My son had a long-term contract with the team, he was an Alpine Academy rider and the first to arrive in F1 from there it immediately became clear, for reasons I can’t talk about, that it had taken a different direction straight away. Jack Doohan then had a couple of accidents in the winter tests of the Japanese Super Formula, having to give up competing in the championship and instead turn to the less exotic European Le Mans Series endurance category, which has always been almost a precursor to the WEC: “Jack is a very strong young man and his plans are to compete. Now he is in Barcelona with a racing car, working with Haas as the third driver and hoping to be able to secure a seat. Maybe in a team that has a little more respect for the contracts already signed…”, concludes Mick Doohan.
