The certainty is that GP will start in 2028 From the Netherlands with unified networks, the newspapers De Limburger and De Telegraaf have effectively ‘officialised’ Gianpiero Lambiase’s move to McLaren starting from 2028. In addition to a financial offer defined as ‘astronomical’, McLaren has offered Lambiase the position of team principal when Andrea Stella leaves the helm of the Woking team. Gianpiero Lambiase will certainly have to observe a suitable period of gardening leave and given that he has a contract with Red Bull until 2027 it is easy to imagine that next year Lambiase will not be on the wall because he will have to remain ‘in the pits’ to be free to start working at McLaren starting from 2028. The fact that the news starts circulating so much in advance of the start of the agreement stipulated between Lambiase and McLaren is ‘preliminary’ to the observation of gardening leaves. Lambiase made an agreement following his commitment to Red Bull in terms of time and will now negotiate with the Milton Keynes team the timing and methods of gardening leave in order to be able to start ‘immediately’ in 2028 as a McLaren man.
