The meeting with the drivers An online meeting took place on Monday 13 April between F1 drivers, the FIA and the FOM to discuss possible changes to the 2026 technical regulations. According to the GPBlog report, both GPDA president George Russell and Max Verstappen were present at the virtual meeting, for a meeting defined as “positive and productive”. The drivers had repeatedly asked to be consulted in the decision-making process and – as explained in recent weeks – the FIA is seeking the greatest possible consensus on the proposals it intends to bring to the track starting from Miami. Domenicali reveals: “Verstappen gave many suggestions” In an interview published today by Autosport, F1 president Stefano Domenicali confirmed the reconstruction: “We have spoken to Max many, many times since the beginning. So I understand his comment and he understands the big picture. Even today there was a meeting where he was very keen to make suggestions.”
On the subject of Verstappen, Domenicali explained: “Racing in GT3? I mean, obviously those races have a balance of performance. I don’t want to fall into the trap of creating antagonisms because it’s not like me, it’s not the way we want to see things.” Therefore, no tension with Max: “We are talking about the best driver, he is a multiple world champion. And obviously his voice must be listened to. Naturally his voice has weight and he must respect the fact that some people may misunderstand. And we must not allow that to happen”, concluded Domenicali.
