BYD Australia has confirmed pricing for its new Sealion 5 plug-in hybrid SUV, positioning it as the brand’s most affordable PHEV to date and a key step in expanding access to electrified vehicles.
The Sealion 5 will start from $33,990, a price point BYD says represents a “significant win for Australian families” and sets a new benchmark for new-energy affordability in the local market.
Available to order now, the Sealion 5 is aimed at drivers who want the benefits of electric motoring without range anxiety. The model delivers up to 100km of electric range (NEDC) using BYD’s latest DM-i (dual-mode intelligent) 4.0 super hybrid system, with a combined driving range approaching 1,000km. Fuel consumption is as low as 1.2L/100km in hybrid mode.
Two variants will be offered – Essential and Premium – both equipped with BYD’s blade battery technology, which the company says offers strong safety performance and durability.
BYD says the new model delivers everyday practicality with strong value, making it suitable for commuting as well as long-distance trips.
Australians want real choice when it comes to electric mobility solutions, and the Sealion 5 offers that at a price point that will appeal to Australian families, BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins says.
“The Sealion 5 raises the bar in terms of new energy vehicle accessibility, without compromising on the features that make BYD great.
“The introduction of the Sealion 5, along with the recent addition of the Atto 1 and Atto 2, paves the way for more Australians to enjoy the very latest in new energy vehicle technology.”
