The Aston Martin crisis
While the other teams have been oriented for days at extracting the maximum performance from the cars – after all the World Championship has begun and there is no more joking – for theAston Martin it’s still testing time. The Silverstone team approached the Melbourne challenge with the approach that the competition adopted between Montmeló and Bahrain: do kilometers and learn the car.
In Australia the AMR26 was, together with the Cadillac, the slowest car. Adrian Newey’s team therefore called Fernando back to the pits Alonso and Lance Stroll and then send them back on track a second time with the clear intention of accumulating kilometres. An objective that they will also have in China, where the Canadian hopes to complete the GP. But the number one problem still remains the Honda power unit, underpowered and unreliable (if not dangerous for those driving), with batteries already reduced to minimum levels after the Albert Park weekend.
Stroll’s words
“We were hoping to do more laps. We are facing a lot of problems right now. Even just doing a few laps is difficult, so it’s not the usual approach to the weekendwhere you show up and think about competing, fighting for points or whatever the car allows you to finish“This is the Canadian’s comment.”At the moment we are just struggling to get the car on track and have a reliable package to participate with“.
“For my part, not much changes, I get in the car and give it my all. I think this weekend we need to improve some of the problems we had in Australia and in testing: vibration, reliability and mileage. We are far behind the competitioneven just in terms of kilometers. We just have to try to get on track more often this weekend: it would already be an excellent result, I think“.
