New colors for the home race For one weekend, we certainly won’t be able to call it ‘team papaya’. McLaren is preparing for its home race at Silverstone by continuing to pay homage to its glorious history and has decided to reveal a very special celebratory livery. In the British GP Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will race with an unusual green-white color that recalls the team’s historic first car, the M2B driven by founder Bruce McLaren and his teammate Chris Amon in the 1966 season, the team’s first in F1. This time in Woking they outdid themselves from the point of view of homage to the past: compared to many other celebratory liveries shown off by McLaren itself but also by many other teams in recent years, in this case the links with the present are maintained only by the sponsors, because otherwise the car takes on a completely ‘vintage’ appearance. “The livery is inspired by the team’s very first Formula 1 car which made its debut at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix – we read in the official press release released by the team – In the same year, Bruce McLaren also scored the team’s first point in Formula 1 at the British Grand Prix, marking the beginning of a journey that continues to characterize the team today”.
