Risk of rain in Miami It should be said that in F1 it rains, or could rain, in the wet. The regulatory changes approved on April 20th were supposed to have the Miami GP as the first test, but the weather forecast for Sunday does not lead to optimism. Even if there was “only” rain on Sunday and not the feared storm (in the latter case the holding of the race itself would be in question), F1 would find itself faced with another variable that adds chaos and safety concerns. The FIA, already harshly criticized for Oliver Bearman’s accident at Suzuka, does not want to end up in the crosshairs again and last night called an emergency meeting with the drivers and teams to evaluate the possible scenarios for Miami: “We will meet with the Federation, because apparently the forecasts are not at all promising”, commented Sergio Perez in the press conference. FIA comment “We are carefully monitoring the weather forecast for this weekend,” commented a Federation spokesperson. “Having already faced a similar situation last year in Miami, with the risk of thunderstorms, we have prepared an emergency plan which we will activate, if necessary, to minimize interruptions to the program on track.” Possibly, the FIA will be able to move the start time of the GP, as done in 2024 in Interlagos. No boost In case of rain, drivers will not be able to activate the boost mode to facilitate overtaking in the wet. Even the straight line mode – the one in which the pilots open their wings in the designated areas – will be limited: the changes to the rules provide that in conditions of poor grip only “partial activation of the bodywork adjustable by the pilot” is allowed.
