The War in the Middle East inevitably continues to influence the entire planet, and even Formula 1 cannot help but be involved. There have already been two postponements in this first part of the season – Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will do everything they can to try to make up for lost weekends – but the current state of affairs does not bode well, also taking into account the presence of Azerbaijan, Qatar and Abu Dhabi in the final part of the championship. If in the best case scenario it is possible to complete the 24 races initially planned, in the worst case scenario it could even be reduced to 19 Grands Prix: therefore, behind the scenes, a real plan B is starting to take shape with some alternative solutions aimed at not totally distorting the physiognomy of the 2026 World Championship. Encore at Silverstone? The person who has publicly made himself available to flesh out the calendar, effectively putting forward his own candidacy, is Silverstone. The English circuit could therefore host a double event, as in 2020 with the back-to-back with the British GP and the 70th Anniversary of F1. According to what a spokesperson for the circuit declared to Sky News UK, “the circuit has stepped forward because it has already intervened during the Covid period and, if this could be of support, obviously we will be happy to do so”. “There are numerous practical issues to consider, but the offer is on the table: Formula 1 knows we are there and we can move quickly if required. Clearly we have no free windows at the moment and that is a credit to us, but in a crisis situation everything can be rescheduled.”
