Is everything okay or not? We need to be honest: how many media outlets are giving space to criticism of the new regulation in recent weeks? And how many reported the pilots’ analyzes of the changes implemented in Miami? It is no mystery that many are doing their utmost to underline and praise the glass as half full, but it is still a glass that is half (and calling it half is already generous…). The drivers agreed on the small step forward, but warned about two non-negligible aspects: going to the limit in qualifying remains penalizing and overtaking remains dangerous due to speed differences. And they are two issues that cannot be silenced for long, pretending that everything has been sorted out, especially the second which refers to an important security issue. Wolff criticizes critics “If there is even one person who complains about the race in Miami, I honestly think he should hide,” thundered Mercedes’ Toto Wolff in the meeting with journalists. The Austrian manager elaborated on his thoughts thus: “Obviously this circuit is a little easier, it doesn’t require as much energy. There are good and bad races, but this was excellent publicity for F1.” In short, Wolff has had enough of the critics: “Anyone who talks about changing the engine regulations in the short term should question their own way of evaluating F1. The race was truly spectacular, with battles for first position and battles in the middle of the pack. Will we be able to modify and optimize the rules in the medium term? I absolutely think so, we will never be against making the show even better. I think about the straight line mode, we need even more speed and we have to be courageous in doing so. In the medium term we are not against changes, perhaps obtaining more performance from the combustion engine. It would be fantastic, but we need some warning time,” he explained in statements collected by Motorsport.
